Rhodococcus jostii

Background

Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 has been studied for its biotechnological applications due to its ability to catabolise a wide range of organic compounds and produce and accumulate large quantities of triacylglycerols (TAGs). RHA1 is able to catabolise several aromatic compounds including biophenyls, phthalate, benzoate, vanillin and p-hydroxycinnamates as carbon sources. Under nitrogen-limited conditions, RHA1 accumulates TAGs up to 55% of its dry cell weight.
