OT(oligotrophic agar)

Oligotrophic agar is an extremely nutritionally-poor medium useful for isolating slow-growing actinomyces e.g. from soil.

Preparation

Per litre:

  • 0.05g Yeast Extract
  • 0.5g tryptone
  • 0.1g sodium glycerophosphate
  • 12g agar

Instructions

  1. Mix well all the components in 1000 mL of distilled water.
  2. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes.
  3. Mix well and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
