Streptomyces griseus
Background
Streptomyces griseus is the producer of streptomycin, the first remedy for tuberculosis. Its first complete genome sequence was reported in 2008. S. griseus is also known for its production of an extracellular signalling molecule, A-factor, which turns on both morphological development and secondary metabolite production including streptomycin.
Growth & Maintenance
S. griseus grows well on YMPD agar and liquid media.
Sporulation
S. griseus sporulates well on YMPD agar medium.
