Streptomyces lividans 66(2)

Background

Streptomyces lividans 66 (also known as 1326) is a model organism for Streptomyces research and particularly useful for heterologous production of proteins and small molecules since it does not restrict foreign methylated DNA.Thew most commonly used strais are TK23 and TK24 which are prototrophic and plasmid free. S. lividans strains 66 and TK24 have both been genome sequenced.

S. lividans is closely related to S. coelicolor A3(2) and both belong to the S. violaceoruber subclade.

Growth & Maintenance

S. lividans grows well on SFM agar and in TSB liquid medium.

Sporulation

S. lividans sporulates well on SFM and IMA.
