Rhodococci are nonsporulating actinomycetes in the family Nocardiaceae along with <em>[[Nocardia]]</em>. They are known for their ability to catabolise a wide range of organic compounds as carbon sources including polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), toluene and plant-derived aromatic compounds. Some species have large genomes (8-10 Mb), encoding a large number of catabolic enzymes. They also produce a large quantity of neutral lipids such as triacylglycerol.
